I don’t even read Homestuck but one my main characters, Mephistopheles, gets lost in the Short Hills Mall and needs a ride, so I decided to have them get mistaken for a cosplayer and picked up by a highly fictionalized, teenaged version of my friend Amy, who tries to turn them on to Homestuck. Most of this novel is historical fantasy but the last few chapters take place in contemporary times so I figured: Who would immediately try to help out an androgynous demon in a shopping mall? And the answer I got was otaku Homestuck fangirls. And yeah that’s the working title for the chapter.
